Bandi Chhor Divas (Sikhism)
Bandi Chhor Divas manes "the Day of the prisoners' release." It commemorates the return of the sixth Guru, Gury Hargobind Ji, to the holy city of Amritsar after he negotiated the release of himself and 52 princes held for political reasons. Since he was released on the day of Diwali (the 'Festival of Lights'), Sikhs in Amritsar illumnate the city.
